Painful
For the first time, I have understood what a painful movie is.  Dinner for Shmucks was so painful, I grew nauseous and stopped the movie twice.  The second time for good.  I cannot bear to watch another moment of the painful dialogue and insensitive humor.  Please, for your own sake, never watch this movie.

Cinco de Mayo
In Seattle it is “Cinco de My’o’My’ in tribute to Dave Niehaus. In New Orleans, it is the Superior Grill Block Party.  In support of both, I am watching Desperado in a sombrero and poncho, eating quesadillas, then heading to the block party without changing.  I expect a wonderful night.  Thank you Dave for making the Mariners the most unforgettable baseball team of my life.

Legal Free Downloading
I have been told that as you get older, breaking the law gets less and less enticing.  This might be true as I have seen my actions trending towards more culturally accepted methods and my taste becoming more and less conservative than before.  More because I am enjoying time-tested music more than in my youth while less because I listen to things now that probably will not have...

Great Indie Music Blog: Part 1 →
I have been collecting a lost of free indie music blogs and wanted to send this one out to Tumblr.  I have found a few New Orleans artists on this site already.  There is a list of available songs and links to MP3’s that go on for days.  Dig in.

Truly a day to go down in history
I've lived in Nola my entire life. And never have I seen a city come together like this (besides after the storm) and really become one. I am not able to be down in the quarter tonight to see the madness but just seeing everyone on tv at the game, the emotions running wild, and the unified support of these players....it was incredible. This city has such a unique energy about it all on it's own. Tonight, we are unstoppable. Tonight, our team did the unthinkable. And tonight, nothing else matters. Not race, social ranking, religious beliefs, sex, occupation...none of it. How amazing....
Jay: I was lucky enough to be in the Quarter after the game and it was awesome. True unity. Who Dat?

Finding My Place in NOLA
New Orleans is a beautiful city with amazing and considerate people. The only overlying complaint about the city is the seemingly generic distaste for change. While stubborn is a charcteristic too strong to a population, perhaps resistant can suffice. New Orleans acts like the bearer of forbidden fruit, promoting travelers to adopt a view of the city that is both very different than the city it...

Apple Store madness.
lewiskingblog: Apple stores don’t have “no smoking” signs. Legally they need them but they “ruin the design of the store”, so for every apple store in the UK they pay £50 a day to keep their windows sign free. Crazy shit. EDIT: I forgot to include the source, it’s a friend who works in the Apple Store in Norwich, The evidence is the fact that they aren’t actually in the windows.

Cuisine inNOLAtion
On Friday we went to Emeril’s for lunch and enjoyed they corporate rush while receiving the best service i had seen in the city as well as some delicious food. Among the members of our group, we had the daily gumbo, shrimp and coconut bisque, Emeril’s salad, and the black drum. For dessert we had the banana cream pie, lemon tart, and vanilla ice cream. There was a great open...

Bring On the Rain
Today I woke up to one of the most comforting experiences I have seen in New Orleans. The city was saturated in a slow and steady rain, much like that of Seattle. Having witnessed, or been victimized, by the onslaught of a heavy downpour on the rare occassion, it is a welcome sight to see this. The puddles are ripe and the ground is moist. While walking to the shuttle stop, I saw a slick of...

My First Parade
Yesterday I spent the day recovering from a migraine I had picked up the night before. One if my solutions was to make a highly nutritional meal and add a bit of spice to do it’s usual trick on my brain pain. I called up some friends and had two classmates join me for the feast which included a basil salad with feta and sundried tomato dressing. The entré was cayanne crusted chicken breast...

The Smells of Being Easy
One note to be acknowledged is the perfume of New Orleans. Upon arrival people remark how there are so many scents mixing about that you can nearly feel them. The flowers and flora are rich and lively, delivering a spicy culinary delight to the olfactory bystander. Currently the palms are in seed and the juniper are ripe with berries. No wonder the air is intoxicating! Perhaps a product could be...

TeaViction Notice
On my first day here at Tulane SPHTM, I have come to the fast realization that tea is hardly welcome. Lipton iced tea is OK, loose leaf tea us not! The cafe staff seemed perplexed that I was seeking hot water and conveniently realized there was a hw spiggot on one of the coffee makers. I can slip behind the counter and take a hit of water but jeeez it is HOT! I don’t think a Starbucks...

Taking it Real Slow
With the apparent lack of Internet on my street, I have come to the stressful conclusion that services here can be quite friendly but extremely inconsiderate. It is my understanding that this is not an isolated incident and that all services will go out due to whatever fancy the provider has with no warning. My Yankee brothers make sure to email, call, or snail mail you when they plan to turn off...
